Installation guide
How to install a slatted panel
The Barreto slatted panel was designed to be installed without construction work. The method changes depending on the line: interlocking with double-sided tape and glue, self-adhesive with adhesive film, or a modular ceiling. See the step-by-step for each one and the official videos.
Before you start
- Tools: tape measure, level, pencil, a fine saw for cutouts and a clean cloth.
- Wall: smooth, clean, dry and firm.
- Boxes: check the model and color of all of them before opening, side by side.
Interlocking slatted panel (Slatted Panels line)
- 1
Prepare the wall
Smooth, clean, dry and firm wall. Loose plaster, mold or moisture must be treated first.
- 2
Mark the first piece
Use the level to mark the plumb line of the first piece. It guides the whole panel.
- 3
Fit the slats
The slats fit onto the spacers that come in the box, in the right quantity for the model.
- 4
Fix it to the wall
Apply the double-sided tape and glue to the back and press against the wall. The tape holds the piece in place while the glue sets.
- 5
Continue piece by piece
Check the alignment on every piece and make the cutouts for outlets and switches before gluing.
- 6
Finish the edges
Use the edge tape in the same tone on the sides and the caulking putty, also in the same tone, for small corrections. Both come in the box.
Self-adhesive slatted panel (StickTech)
- 1
Prepare the surface
Smooth, clean, dry wall, or MDF. A wall with loose plaster or moisture must be treated first.
- 2
Peel off the liner
The StickTech panel comes already assembled, with the patented adhesive film on the back.
- 3
Apply and align
Place the panel against the surface and align it. The system allows repositioning during installation.
- 4
Press
Press the whole area of the panel. Stick Pro glue reinforces the bond as a second system.
This also applies to the Corais and Mediterrâneo collections, which use the same system. Discover StickTech
Slatted ceiling
The ceiling is modular, fixed to a structure on the ceiling, with ceiling trim as the finish. Because of the weight and height, Barreto recommends its own installation team or an installer recommended by the store. See the slatted ceiling.
Common installation mistakes
- Installing on a damp, dirty wall or one with loose plaster.
- Not checking the level of the first piece: the error shows up across the whole panel.
- Opening boxes from different batches without checking the color side by side.
- Gluing before marking the cutouts for outlets, switches and doors.
- Swapping the fixing method specified for the line for any other.

Questions about installation
Can you install a slatted panel on your own?
On the wall, yes: the interlocking system and StickTech were made to be installed without construction work. On the ceiling, because of the weight and height, Barreto recommends its own installation team or an installer recommended by the store.
What should I use to glue a slatted panel to the wall?
With the interlocking system, double-sided tape and glue on the back. With StickTech, the panel's own adhesive film, with Stick Pro glue as reinforcement. Always use the fixing method specified for the line.
How long does the glue take to cure?
Depends on the glue used: from 20 minutes, following the packaging instructions. Avoid forcing the panel while the glue cures.
Do I need special tools?
No. A tape measure, a level, a pencil, a fine saw for the cutouts and a clean cloth are enough for a wall. Ceiling installation needs a frame and is handled by the installation team.
How do I install a slatted panel on the ceiling?
The ceiling is modular and fixed to a frame on the ceiling, with a trim at the edge. Barreto has its own ceiling installation team and step-by-step videos on this page.
